A big part of preschool development is language! Language is preschoolers has a large range of what is typical. So if you are wanting to help your child expand his or her vocabulary, expand on what they already know. So, if they are only saying 3 words phrases, repeat their phrase and add one additional word. Ex: The big truck. Expand it by saying: The big black truck.
