Term 1 Report Cards/ Essential Standards Report
In Preschool and Elementary School, we don’t use letter grades for end-of-term grading. We use a different kind of Report Card that measures each student’s learning on important grade-level standards. We call these ‘Essential Standards’.
For our 4-year-old classes (Grade -1), our Term 1 Essential Standards are:
- Math: Counting to 10
- Language Arts: Blending two words to make a compound word
(e.g. ‘Pan’ + ‘Cake’ = Pancake)
- Writing: Drawing a simple object with details
For our 3-year-old classes (Grade -2), our Term 1 Essential Standards are:
- Math: Sorting objects by color and by shape
- Language Arts: Answering yes/no & choice questions
- Lifelong Learning: Using classroom materials appropriately
For our Foundations class (Grade -3), our Term 1 Essential Standards are:
- Math: Matching the same objects together
- Language Arts: Pointing to a named person, animal, or object
- Lifelong Learning: Following simple 1-step directions with picture prompts
You will be getting your child’s Term 1 Essential Standards Report Card in the next two weeks. I’ve attached example report cards below, so you can familiarize yourself with the document. Your child’s teacher will also be reviewing your child’s progress on the standards with you during SEP conferences (Nov 2-4).
